Objectives:

The Earth Investigations Programme aims to:

  • Support cross-border investigative journalism on environmental issues affecting Europe.
  • Uncover illegal, unreported, and unregulated environmental abuses.
  • Enable comparative investigations into local environmental policies between different regions or cities.
  • Provide funding for preliminary research in developing new investigative projects.
  • Offer financial support for working time, logistics, travel, insurance, legal support, translations, technology access, and data sets.
  • Provide mentorship for investigative focus and skill development.
Project Themes:
  • Environmental investigations linked to Europe.
  • Climate change, pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and illegal environmental activities.
  • Comparative environmental policy studies between regions/cities.

Financial Support: A total of €1,600,000 is available, with approximately €400,000 per application round.

Deadline: There are multiple application rounds in 2025:

  • Next deadline: 3 April 2025, 1 PM CEST
  • Following rounds: 24 July 2025 and 16 October 2025
