Agence France-Presse (AFP), one of the world’s top news agencies, seeks a dynamic and experienced Editor to join its English-language news desk in Hong Kong. This editor role focuses on editing and writing text copy to world-class standards while incorporating multimedia content for a global audience. The editor provides opportunities for reporting assignments, correspondent postings, and cross-departmental collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Edit and write breaking news, features, analysis, and multimedia stories to top-tier standards.
  • Monitor social media and integrate user-generated content (UGC) into reporting while adhering to AFP’s ethics charter and editorial guidelines.
  • Collaborate with reporters and bureau chiefs across the Asia-Pacific region, ensuring high-quality content and maintaining diplomacy in communications.
  • Contribute to combating misinformation by working with fact-checkers and employing online verification methods.
  • Adapt to diverse topics, from climate change and technology to conflict and sports, based on client and newsroom demands.
    Required Qualifications
  • Proven journalism experience with strong writing, editing, and multimedia skills.
  • Excellent news judgment and the ability to manage real-time deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region and its diverse news topics.
  • Flexible and adaptable to covering a wide range of subjects, from global conflicts to lifestyle and technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for managing copy from both junior reporters and seasoned bureau chiefs.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, within the desk’s 7 AM to midnight operations.
  • Knowledge of French is highly desirable, and familiarity with Asian affairs or other foreign languages is a plus.
