The Telegraph is seeking an experienced International Economics Editor to spearhead its expanded coverage of global economic issues. This pivotal role will focus on delivering exclusive stories, in-depth analysis, and agenda-setting features across our digital and print platforms. Reporting directly to the Business Editor, the successful candidate will play a senior role in shaping The Telegraph’s economics coverage while mentoring junior reporters.

This is a full-time position based in London, with opportunities for international travel and occasional weekend work.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver exclusive, original stories and analysis in international economics through interviews, data interrogation, and expert commentary.
  • Focus coverage on key areas such as migration policy and crises, cross-border trade, the Eurozone economy, and global fiscal issues.
  • Produce a mix of news, features, and in-depth analysis tailored for The Telegraph’s audience.
  • Develop innovative storytelling formats, including data-driven journalism, graphics, and audio content.
  • Collaborate with social media and SEO teams to optimize and promote digital content.
  • Support the economics team by mentoring junior reporters and shaping overall coverage priorities.
  • Contribute to broader business and economics reporting when needed.
  • Represent The Telegraph in international coverage, with occasional travel to report major economic events.
Required Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of international economics and politics, with a network of senior contacts in governments, NGOs, and regulators.
  • Proven ability to break news and identify unique analytical angles on complex economic issues.
  • Exceptional writing skills, able to craft clear, engaging content for a general audience.
  • Experience with digital storytelling techniques, including SEO, social media strategies, and data visualization.
  • A strong ability to conceptualize and create graphical representations of economic stories.
  • A track record of managing reporting teams or mentoring junior reporters.
  • Digitally savvy with a deep understanding of content optimization and audience engagement.
  • Flexibility to travel internationally and work weekends as required.
