Rozana, in collaboration with key voices in the Syrian independent media sector, is seeking a Mapping and Researcher Consultant to lead a comprehensive mapping and needs assessment. This initiative aims to establish a professional consortium ensuring the long-term viability of independent Syrian media organizations. The findings will inform programming, organizational development, and strategic planning for the consortium.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a literature review of previously published mappings and needs assessments of Syrian independent media organizations, identifying gaps and refining research design.
- Develop research and assessment tools tailored to the consortium’s needs, integrating qualitative and quantitative data collection.
- Provide an inception report outlining methodology, assessment tools, timeline, and deliverables.
- Conduct comprehensive mapping and needs assessment research to identify and evaluate Syrian independent media organizations, their audiences, areas of influence, challenges, and needs.
- Organize and facilitate at least two virtual roundtable discussions with media organizations and consortium partners, integrating findings into the final report.
- Produce a comprehensive Mapping and Needs Assessment Report with actionable recommendations to inform consortium programming.
- Deliver virtual roundtable summaries highlighting insights, collaboration opportunities, and participant feedback.
- Submit a Final Consultant Report, including research tools, data summaries, and strategic recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Media Studies, Journalism, Social Sciences, or a related field (equivalent professional experience may be considered).
- Proven experience in research and analysis, particularly in the media sector, civil society, or conflict-affected contexts.
- Strong understanding of the Syrian independent media landscape and the challenges faced by media organizations operating in conflict or post-conflict settings.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement qualitative and quantitative research tools.
- Excellent writing and reporting skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including media organizations and civil society actors.
- Familiarity with organizational development and capacity-building frameworks is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable recommendations.
