RNW Media is looking for a Team Lead Media Innovation who’ll be the driver of designing, executing and innovating RNW Media’s digital media intervention and solutions.
The Team Lead Media Innovation scopes developments within digital media landscape and understands their applicability to RNW Media’s work, focussing on defining fundable and scalable digital media interventions and solutions.
The Team Lead Media Innovation is the people manager of the Digital Media pool of experts and guides them to further conceptualise innovative solutions and follow through with implementation. They will also work on projects, both internal and external, and ensure a healthy workload for their pool of expertise.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the Team Lead Media Innovation include:
- Is people manager for the Media Innovation pool of experts. This entails being first point of contact regarding all personnel matters. This includes, but is not limited to, responsible for performance cycle, wellbeing, learning & development and regular check-in with team members;
- Aligns with the Director and Human Resources on personnel matters;
- Acts as the first point of contact on digital media intervention, solution and innovation for the organisation;
- Supports the Director Media Innovation to manage solution portfolio;
- Leads the standardisation and optimisation of diverse types of digital media solutions, such as in the format of coaching, consultation, digital product development;
- Leads the digital media solution development cycle, including process optimisation and quality control, ensuring its competitiveness and fundability;
- Leads or supports digital media solution innovation initiatives, based on newest industry trends and needs of partners, including facilitation of the deployment of AI across all digital media solutions;
- Translates research insights and experience and best practice of the Vine members (RNW Media’s global community of public interests and independent media, trainers and alumni) into innovative digital media interventions to enrich our solution portfolio, in coordination with the Programme and Impact Team;
- Leads or supports digital media solution implementation activities in various programmes and projects, ensuring best quality and customer experience;
- Aligns with the Impact Team and Learning Solution Team to ensure the coherency and consistency across all types of solutions and seamless collaborative processes;
- Collaborate with the Business and Partnership Development team to convert innovative digital media interventions into concept notes or proposals to support active fundraising;
- Coordinate with the Positioning and Visibility team to raise the profile of digital media solutions and strengthen our positioning as a thought leader;
- Support organisational advocacy efforts, centred to the intersectionality of the big techs’ transparency and accountability and media viability;
- Other tasks assigned by the Director.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in journalism, communication, digital marketing, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience in digital media and journalism, preferably in public interest media, independent outlets, or international media development organisations.
- Expertise in the full journalistic and editorial process, including content production, curation, moderation, distribution, marketing, audience measurement, and data analytics.
- Strong knowledge of media development topics, including information integrity (countering mis/dis/mal-information) and media viability (sustainable business models and partnerships).
- Experience in digital media product development and implementation, such as training, coaching, co-creation of digital content, campaigns, and products with partners.
- Proven project management and people management experience in a project-based organization.
- Solid understanding of digital media trends, digital marketing tactics, and AI applications in journalism.
- Strong knowledge of international policy framework on media development and human rights topics, centred to media freedom, freedom of expression and rights to access to information;
- Experience in media development advocacy, particularly at the intersection of big tech transparency and accountability and media viability, is highly valued. Knowledge or interest in crosscutting topics such as gender equality and migration is also considered an advantage.
- Familiarity with the media development funding landscape, including experience in fundraising and proposal writing.
- Ability to create winning concept notes and proposals in collaboration with the Business Development team.
- Connections with media development funders, donors, or organizations are a plus.
- Proficiency in data analysis and tools like Google Analytics and Hootsuite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in English, with additional languages (e.g., French, Arabic) preferred.
- Results-driven, adaptable, and quick to learn in a dynamic environment.
- Strong ability to work in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.
