The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a landmark event, the Media and Development Conference 2024 (#MDC2024), taking place from November 25 to November 26 in Abuja, Nigeria.
This special conference, under the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Media and Technology for Inclusive and Sustainable Development in Africa,” aims to explore the transformative role of media and technology in fostering inclusive, sustainable development across Africa amidst global challenges.
The 2024 Media and Development Conference will bring together more than 250 delegates, including media professionals, academics, policymakers, civil society leaders, technology experts, and representatives from government and international organisations, to discuss the evolving intersections of media, technology, and sustainable growth in Africa.
Highlights
- Panel Discussions: Industry leaders and scholars from journalism, technology, and academia will lead discussions on key topics, including media sustainability, the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on journalism, digital disruption, climate change, health, gender equality, and democratic processes in West Africa.
- Workshops and Plenary Sessions: The conference will feature thematic workshops focusing on climate change, food security, human rights, and social accountability, with an emphasis on the media’s role in promoting sustainable and inclusive development across African nations.
- AI and Media Summit (November 26): A full-day summit dedicated to examining AI’s impact on politics, democracy, and inclusive growth. This session will cover Nigeria’s emerging AI strategy and delve into how advancements in technology are shaping governance and society at large.
