Dow Jones seeks to hire a Senior Manager, Risk & Safety – APAC role on their team based out of the company’s regional hub in Singapore. This is a hybrid role balancing requirements between remote and on-site working. The role is also expected to travel up to 30% of the year throughout the APAC region.
Reporting to the global head of risk & resilience, the Senior Manager, Risk & Safety provides regional coverage working closely with departmental colleagues, newsrooms, the business and other key stakeholders to deliver a range of risk and safety/security services.
Responsibilities
As Senior Manager, Risk & Safety, you will:
- Work with colleagues to ensure relevant current and emerging risks to the organisation and its people are effectively identified, assessed, communicated, and mitigated.
- Forge exceptional relationships with people across the company (Legal, Cyber, People, etc. ) its products and publications. Provide a source of sound judgement, advice and counsel to staff, freelancers, and decision makers on risk, safety, security and operational challenges.
- Contribute proactively or when engaged to all best practices adopted by the risk & safety organization – plan and process improvement, risk mitigation and responding to new challenges.
- Using already-established tools and systems, support functional goals and responsibilities in high-risk support, workplace & event security, training, equipment management and investigations.
- Play a key role supporting incident management through aggressive and active intervention, coordination, information provision and problem solving while providing compassionate and reasoned support to those involved.
- Participate in industry working groups and follow trends in risk management and digital and physical security, the threat landscape (especially as it relates to media companies), best practices and solutions, available technologies and service providers.
Required qualifications
- Experienced (10+ years) applying risk management, security and training solutions to support organisational goals and strategy.
- Mission-focused. Willing to handle a sometimes irregular schedule and dive into ambiguous and challenging situations.
- A critical thinker. Able to understand complex situations and provide unique and innovative solutions.
- A collegial, dynamic and proactive contributor with a desire for continuous learning, development and career growth.
- Familiar with the operational risk and security issues associated with challenging safety and security situations and austere, less-developed or unstable/conflict environments.
- You are interested in global events and have a good understanding of how social/political/conflict dynamics can affect risk.
- A capable communicator – able to brief and influence effectively and translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms. Careful information sharing is critical as is tailoring your communications style for various audiences – people across time zones and from different cultures and backgrounds.
- Reliable and responsive. Capable of leading on incidents and emergency situations – from identification and support to review and analysis. This includes communicating with leaders and working with all stakeholders to ensure business resilience.
Preferred Qualities
- Experience applying risk management, security, and training solutions within a media, data or content organisation with journalists working in the field.
- An understanding of the relationship between newsgathering, risk, digital/physical safety and relevant legal matters.
- Fluency in regionally relevant languages.
