DII-Ukraine’s mission is to strengthen Ukraine’s democratic society to withstand all forms of aggression, particularly in the realm of information warfare. Their objectives focus on reintegrating residents from occupied territories into the information landscape, promoting independent journalism, and countering propaganda aimed at Russian-speaking audiences. The organisation also works to prevent future aggression by fostering informed public discourse.
Despite facing difficult working conditions and instability, DII-Ukraine upholds principles of conflict-sensitive journalism and professional standards. As the publisher of Donbas News and the organiser of the annual Donbas Media Forum, DII-Ukraine connects with residents in Russian-occupied territories, even in the face of media censorship. The majority of the team consists of internally displaced persons (IDPs), giving them unique expertise in verifying information from occupied territories and engaging with those affected by the occupation.
