Akhbar Meter is a media observatory that combats mis/disinformation in Egypt by holding media institutions accountable for their unprofessional and unethical practices in front of their audience. AkhbarMeter includes rigorous fact-checking activities in response to the escalating spread of fake news on online platforms.
We strive to develop a reputation for independence, refraining from any political or ideological affiliations, ensuring our work remains unbiased and solely focused on factual accuracy and media integrity.
In October 2023, AkhbarMeter became the first organization in Egypt and North Africa to join the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). As well, the team is a member of the Arab Fact-Checkers Network (AFCN) and the African Fact-Checkers Network (Africa Facts).
