The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting is seeking a Grants Manager who will play a critical role in overseeing and strategically managing all philanthropic grants, grant reports, and associated grant metrics across the organisation.

This Grants Manager is responsible for managing 20 to 30 different grants simultaneously, ensuring timely submissions, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in grant management and fundraising development, with the ability to implement strategic initiatives and collaborate effectively across departments.

Responsibilities

As Grants Manager, you will be involved in:

Grant Management and Coordination

  • Coordinate and manage all grant activities, including applications, reports, and metrics.
  • Ensure timely submission of grant proposals and reports.
  • Monitor and track grant progress and deadlines, ensuring deliverables are met.
  • Maintain accurate records of all grant activities.
  • Develop and implement systems to streamline grant management processes.
  • Develop and implement grant management strategies that maximize funding opportunities and organisational impact.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Collaborate with various departments to gather necessary information for grant applications and reports.
  • Facilitate communication between program staff, finance team, and leadership to ensure alignment on grant objectives and reporting.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on grant status and potential funding opportunities.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Utilise project management systems like Asana to track grant-related deliverables, tasks and deadlines.
  • Manage grant-related data in Salesforce, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Generate reports on grant performance and impact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analyse grant data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Financial Oversight

  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate budgeting for grant proposals.
  • Work closely with the finance team to monitor grant expenditures and ensure compliance with funder requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial reports for grantors as required.

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Contribute to the organisation’s overall fundraising and development strategy.
  • Mentor team members in grant management best practices.
  • Represent the Pulitzer Center in meetings with funders and partners as needed.
  • Assist with the identification and pursuit of new funding opportunities aligned with organisational goals.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in grants management, including international grantmaking, expenditure responsibility, and other legal/IRS compliance issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a small team.
  • Experience working with grants management databases.
  • Knowledge and application of best practices in grantmaking.
  • Knowledge of current regulations pertaining to IRS and international grantmaking.
  • Proven abilities in analysis, database management, and data reporting.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly with developing Google Docs forms/templates, and manipulating data in Google Sheets, willingness to learn additional applications (and accessible technology) as necessary.
  • Proficiency with project management systems like Asana and CRM systems like Salesforce.
  • High level of attention to detail and strong organisational skills, and, at the same time, ability to think broadly and analyse trends.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, with ability to work successfully in a virtual team environment.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, with attention to detail required.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical, budgetary, and grants administration details to staff, donors, grantees, and Board members.
  • Ability to design and implement effective workflow processes and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise, and follow through to effectively manage work and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Capability to foster an atmosphere which recognises and respects cultural and individual differences.
