BBC Media Action seeks to hire a Head of Global Partnerships who will lead a global team and will be expected to draw on a wide range of resources throughout the organisation.
This split role as Head of Global Partnerships leads a specialist Central Partnerships Team responsible for driving the organisation’s programme development activity to secure new project income, and managing of external relationships with a diverse range of donors and partners.
The post-holders lead and manage key donor relationships and represent BBC Media Action externally. Reporting to the Director of Strategy & Partnerships, you will work closely with Programme, Advisory, Research and Finance colleagues including those based in country offices around the world, and provide strategic leadership on business development processes focused on securing income from institutional sources.
You will bring innovation, creativity, sound editorial judgement and knowledge of media and production to the Central Partnerships team. The post-holders are responsible for developing projects and maintaining relations with donors and key stakeholders, principally in the UK and Europe.
Main Responsibilities
Proposed job-share arrangement
This job-share is intended to be FTE 1.2 (6 days a week) with the current post holder. This is advertised as a job split rather than a part-time arrangement for the full role. The day to day job responsibilities will be split as follows. This advertisement is for Position A.
Position A:
- Leadership of the day to day restricted income function of the Central Business Development team including line management of senior team members.
- Strategic leadership on business development approaches and processes involving close coordination with Regional Directors, Country Directors and global support teams to ensure appropriate resourcing and decision-making on business development efforts.
- Improve coordination of programme development and the sharing of intelligence internally.
- Positioning for and proactive development of new opportunities, ensuring appropriate resources are dedicated to design and writing of proposals.
- Develop and maintain key contacts and ensure the organisation is abreast of trends and changes in development as it relates to partnerships and relevant themes.
Position B:
- Leadership of efforts to secure flexible core funding from institutional partners
- Leadership of key strategic partnerships with priority institutional donors and partners
- Lead innovations in thinking on business development approaches through development of high-level partnerships
- Play a leadership role in the Central Business Development team including task management of individual team members as appropriate to support partnership efforts
- Raise the profile and visibility of BBC Media Action through development of high profile platforms and partnership opportunities to support development of new work.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in business development and strategic leadership in international development, and be an inspiring team leader with exceptional people management skills. In particular you will evidence the following key skills and experience:
- Proven senior management experience in programme development to include a proven ability to raise funds from institutional donors
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a proven track record in building and managing external relationships as well as working at a high level in a representative role
- Significant experience managing and developing staff to shared goals and an ability to manage diverse stakeholders, operating under tight timescales and managing competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written, and fluency as a public speaker
- Excellent understanding of BBC Media Action editorial values, sector trends and approaches
Desirable:
- Strong technical understanding of the communications for development sector, including media development and communications for behaviour and social change.
- Experience in media or media development.
- In depth knowledge of one or more of the countries/regions in which BBC Media Action works and relevant field experience.
- Experience working with log frames and monitoring and evaluation
- Experience working with people whose first language is not English.
