The Media Development Foundation announces the Local Media Relaunch Initiative, a competition for journalists and editors who want to restart their independent media in one of 11 regions of Ukraine. They are looking for teams from Kyiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions.
Objectives
With this Local Media Relaunch Initiative, they want to:
- Create an opportunity for Ukrainians to receive balanced and verified information in the regions most affected or suffering from the war – in the front-line and de-occupied territories of Ukraine.
- Give Ukrainian media workers the opportunity to stay and work in their region and, at the same time, not depend on the authorities and oligarchs.
Who is this program for?
- For independent newsrooms that are already working in one of these regions and feel the need to restart the media — it involves expanding the team, providing equipment, building managerial processes in the newsroom, revising the media strategy, etc.
- For journalists or activists who are ready to establish an independent newsroom from scratch.
What participants will receive
- A training program that will help restart the media
- Individual approach
- Mentorship from experienced mentors who will help overcome obstacles during the media restart
- Financial support.
