Internews is seeking to hire a Monitoring and Evaluation Associate who will support the Central America and Mexico (CAMEX) team’s efforts to measure, capture, and demonstrate the impact of Internews’ projects in the region.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Associate will assist in ensuring the quality of data collection, data analysis processes, reporting mechanisms, and report writing, particularly donor reports submitted on a quarterly basis for the CAMEX sub-region.

The Monitoring and Evaluation Associate will report to the Central America MERL Officer and will work in close collaboration with all members of the Central America and Mexico team within the Americas Program Management Unit (PMU) and relevant HQ departments as required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Central America MERL Officer and Program Officers with activity monitoring, evaluation, and learning to capture project performance results.
  • Support the Central America MERL Officer and Programs Officers in the design, development, and administration of resources and tools to evaluate and track project indicators, such as pre- and post-activity surveys, focus group questionnaires, uniform qualitative data analysis, internal tracking systems, impact stories, etc.
  • Assist with the quarterly collection and verification of indicator data for projects and Internews’ overall monitoring and evaluation efforts, including the use and management of program data in the internal Program Source database.
  • Compile written documentation on M&E activities and indicator results for progress and annual reports as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with subgrantees to ensure their timely submission of monitoring and evaluation data and examples of project impact that meet Internews’ and donor standards for quality, detail, and clarity.
  • Participate in regular pause and reflection sessions with colleagues and partners to inform project implementation and learnings.
  • Liaise with Internews’ regional and global M&E teams and experts.
  • Contribute to regional MERL initiatives and collaborate with MERL staff throughout the Americas region.

Required qualifications
  • University degree or equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • Spanish and English fluency.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills: ability to present in non-technical language to diverse audiences, including colleagues, journalists, consultants, and donors.
  • Strong time management and organization skills; ability to effectively manage a dynamic workload and shifting priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong research and writing skills; editorial and/or copyediting skills preferred.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
Preferred qualifications

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Familiarity with the Central American media landscape and information ecosystem.
  • Prior relevant experience, preferably working with an international NGO, think tank, or within the development, media, or human rights sectors.
  • Monitoring and evaluation experience, familiarity with logic models and program management plans (PMPs).
  • Awareness of the major evaluation methodologies (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact) and data collection/survey design, implementation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity and capabilities for creating online reading and communications products.
Logistics

This is a fully remote role; our ideal candidate is based in Costa Rica, Guatemala, or Mexico. Remote candidates based elsewhere in Latin America will also be considered.
