Entries open for Gabo Award in Latin America

The Gabo Foundation invites journalists from all over Latin America to submit entries for the 2024 Gabo Award taking place in the city of Bogotá.

Embracing ‘Journalism Lives’ as the motto, this call signifies the resilience of a profession against silencing attempts, adapting to digital transformations, staying creative, and upholding truth amid attacks on press freedom.

Categories

• Text: works of written journalism, such as profiles, chronicles, interviews, reports, among other pieces that stand out from the point of view of journalistic rigor and care of language.
• Photography: photographic coverage works that represent and communicate events, places, characters or events through static images.
• Audio: Creates sound journalism, exploring narration ingenuity and resource diversity in radio pieces or podcasts.
• Image: Engages in audio-visual journalism, including videos, animations, and digital visualizations like documentaries and series.
• Coverage: Works on news, investigations, and current affairs, including multimedia specials in diverse media and languages.

Award Details

• The finalists and winners of the 12th edition of the Gabo Award will receive more than $80,000 in prizes.
• The finalists in the five categories will receive 8 million Colombian pesos as a prize and will be invited with all expenses paid to the Gabo 2024 Festival, from July 5 to 7 in the city of Bogotá.
• Winners will receive 35 million Colombian pesos, an accreditation diploma, and a ‘Gabriel’ sculpture by artist Antonio Caro.
