GFMD welcomes 23 new members

In November 2022, the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) welcomed twenty-three new members to our ever-growing community of journalism support and media development organisations.

GFMD welcomes 23 new members

These new members are based across all continents, reflecting the international nature of the GFMD network. With that, we happily welcome the following organisations to GFMD:

General members

  1. Associação de Jornalismo Digital (Ajor)Brazil: A digital journalism association that represents over 100 initiatives in every region of the country, and its mission is to strengthen the Brazilian digital journalism ecosystem.
  2. Baltic Centre for Media Excellence Latvia: Promotes professional growth, media intelligence and critical thinking and strives for positive change in journalism and the communities it serves.
  3. Center Science and Innovation for DevelopmentAlbania: An NGO that focuses on research, capacity development, action and advocacy for media independence, freedom and empowerment of communities through media and communication.
  4. The Coalition For Women In Journalismthe United States of America: Fosters and supports camaraderie between women journalists around the globe.
  5. Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma the United States of America: Provides training, research and resources enhancing effective, ethical reporting on violence, crisis and tragedy, and supporting the resilience of news professionals confronting trauma in their work.
  6. DataphyteNigeria: A media research and data analytics organisation with the mission to deploy data tools and technology for the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
  7. DT Institutethe United States of America: Designs creative solutions to develop and sustain media institutions, improve the quality and availability of news and information, and strengthen societies’ resilience against disinformation.
  8. Fathm – the United Kingdom: Supports teams and organisations within the news, media and communication industries, and those working close to them, to build creative and sustainable solutions to opportunities and challenges.
  9. Fiquem SabendoBrazil: An independent data agency specialising in access to information law.
  10. Global Media RegistryGermany: Collects, compiles and provides – either publicly available or self-reported – datasets and contextual information on media outlets around the world.
  11. International Association of Women in Radio and Television Philippines: Association that enhances women’s role and participation in media.
  12. International Consortium of Investigative Journaliststhe United States of America: Represents a new departure for journalism, persuading the biggest and the smallest media organisations in the world to work together to do the watchdog journalism they used to do alone.
  13. Lie DetectorsBelgium: An award-winning journalist-led media-literacy organisation in Europe.
  14. Media Foundation for West AfricaGhana: A regional independent non-governmental organisation with a network of national partner organisations in all 16 countries in West Africa.
  15. Muwatin Media Network the United Kingdom: An independent media organisation whose objective is to create a new, distinct and independent journalistic experience by discussing political, religious and social topics that are kept muted in the MENA region, which are the editorial line of its all programs.
  16. Oštro, Center for investigative journalism in the Adriatic regionSlovenia: A centre for investigative journalism in the Adriatic region that nurtures investigative and data journalism, champions the »right to know« as one of the fundamental human rights, spreads journalistic knowledge, and contributes to the cultivation of future generations of journalists.
  17. ProtoGraph Studio Private LimitedIndia: A social enterprise that is trying to achieve better outcomes in civic media through collaboration and research.
  18. REVOLVE CircularAustria: Main activities are constructive journalism around science and climate change.
  19. Stichting Female Journalists Networkthe Netherlands: An organisation specialising in feminist media that works with Syrian journalists and media institutions on gender-sensitive reporting.
  20. TafniedEgypt: A professional digital initiative specialised in fact-checking through the use of open information sources to verify the information issued by the official authorities, and to interpret the Context of official media statements and statements.
  21. World between the LinesSlovakia: A media-education initiative whose goal is to bring more accurate, more comprehensive and balanced information about the world to the media discourse.

  1. Bhekisisa, Centre for Health JournalismSouth Africa: An independent non-profit media startup that focuses on health and social justice reporting in South Africa.
  2. Daily RozanPakistan: A popular Urdu e-paper that is one of the most widely circulated regional newspapers and is especially popular among Pakistanis living outside Pakistan.

GFMD is thrilled to add a new group of members to the network and to work with them to promote media development and support journalism wherever it is threatened across the globe.
