In 2020 when the pandemic hit, Splice Media ran a Splice Lights On survey – a survey to better understand the financial conditions at newsrooms. They found that over 40% of media organisations expected to start cutting jobs in the following 12 months to reduce costs. It was dire. That resulted in emergency grants delivered with the Meta Journalism Project. Read more on the findings of the 2020 report here.
Now, as some countries slowly emerge from COVID-19, Splice Media is running another survey to see how newsrooms are doing.
Why take this survey? This time, they are hoping to learn:
- What are their current business conditions like?
- Are they optimistic or pessimistic about the year ahead?
- What can we as a community do to help newsrooms?
Splice Media wants to help these newsrooms build viable businesses, and this survey will inform the work of all of us. They will later publish the results at the end of the survey.
How long does the survey take to complete? This is detailed so it’s going to be about 6 to 8 minutes of concentrated form-filling, but it will be worth it.
