On July 19th at the 2019 UN High-Level Segment held at the United Nations HQ, GFMD, represented by Owais Aslam, Secretary General of Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) and member of the GFMD Steering Committee, delivered an oral statement.
The Access to Information (ATI) guide is intended to help journalists to use their fundamental right of access to public information. Through four steps, the resource seeks to concretely guide journalists as they are requesting information from a public authority.
GFMD member Globe International Center celebrated their twentieth anniversary on July 5th, 2019. The event celebrated all of the work carried out by the organisation over the last twenty years and brought together representatives from private and public authorities, NGOs, and other international organisations.

From July 10th to 11th 2019, GFMD will attend the Global Conference for Media Freedom in London, co-hosted by the UK and Canadian Govenments. The conference is part of an international campaign to raise awareness of the importance of international press freedom, and also to increase the consequences faced by those who try to restrict it.
GFMD is delighted to partner with BBC Media Action and a consortium of other media development organisations in the new “Protecting Independent Media for Effective Development” (PRIMED) project, alongside eight other media development organisations.
GFMD will be represented by Advocacy and Engagement Manager, Michael Oghia at a session titled “Impact of Digital Development on Media Pluralism” at the 21st Regional Central Asia Media Conference, titled “Media Freedom and Pluralism in times of Digital Transformation” will be held this year in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from July 17th to 18th.

Summer School This year’s BIRN Summer School of Investigative Reporting will take place at the Teleferic Hotel in Poiana Brasov, Romania from August 19 until August 25, 2019. The summer school offers participants to hone their investigative reporting skills while learning from award-winning international investigative reporters and trainers.
On 9 July, 33 press freedom and media development organisations met in London in advance of the Global Media Freedom Conference to call on all participating States to ensure the protection and safety of all journalists and media workers in compliance with their existing obligations and international standards.
GFMD member Abraji hosted its 14th International Congress of Investigative Journalism in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from June 27th to 29th. Held annually since 2005, the Congress is the largest gathering of journalists in Latin America and this year’s event attracted 1200 attendees.
