Putting Media Development on the Map

13.04.09

For each country, the map will give information about GFMD members that are based there and provide details of on-going media development programmes in that country. Users will not only be able to see what is going where but a database will allow them to search for information by media assistance groups, donors and type of media development programmes.

“There have been studies looking at what programmes different donors supported in the past, but there is no global map that shows the variety and impact media development organisations make today. The GFMD map will change that”, said GFMD Chair Joyce Barnathan. “Donors, policy makers, media assistance groups will be able to see at one glance which programmes are being carried out where and who supports them.”

The mapping will cover the current 100 members of the GFMD. As the organisation grows and new members join, they will also have access to this service and their work will be shown on the GFMD map.

To show how the map will work, the GFMD has produced a sample illustrating the work of GFMD members in Kenya. Once the full map is up and running, also the search functions will be active.

GFMD members will be contacted in the coming months to send information about their programmes.

Media assistance groups who want to be part of the mapping exercise and join the GFMD, should contact Bettina Peters, GFMD Director at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
